Khephren Thuram left out of Juventus' Serie A list: what it means, how the squad list works and when it can change
Juventus have filed their Serie A squad list, and neither Arkadiusz Milik nor Khephren Thuram is on it. The two exclusions have different reasons, and only one of them can be undone before January.
Juventus have filed their twenty-five-man list for the 2026-27 league season, and two names are not on it: Arkadiusz Milik and Khephren Thuram.
The two exclusions look like the same thing and are not. One is a choice, the other is a medical report.
Why Thuram is out
Khephren Thuram has had surgery on his right knee for patellar chondropathy. The recovery is long and he is expected back in the second half of the season, with a return to play targeted during 2027.
His exclusion is therefore not a verdict on the player: keeping a man in the list who will be unavailable for months would burn one of the twenty-five slots. It is arithmetic, not judgement.
Why Milik is out
The Polish striker's case is different, and it is the one being argued about. The exclusion comes down to a lack of physical guarantees: across two seasons at the club, Milik has managed two official appearances.
Ahead of him in the pecking order are Dušan Vlahović and Nick Woltemade, signed in the summer. With the slots counted, the place went to someone who can play now.
How the list works, and when it can change
The league list holds twenty-five players. Anyone not on it cannot be fielded in Serie A: they remain available for the Coppa Italia only.
It is not locked until January, though. The club has two changes available before the transfer window reopens, and if a slot among the twenty-five frees up — through a sale to a league whose market is still open, or another squad movement — Juventus can formally reinstate Milik.
That is what keeps the story alive: until those two changes are spent, the exclusion is reversible.
What it changes tonight
Little, on the pitch. Neither would have started against Milan: Thuram is injured and Milik has not played a full match in two seasons. But the list is a photograph of how thin the squad is in the areas where Juventus spent least, and that question will come back at every midweek round.
