Premier League table and results: City and Arsenal perfect, Hull City third without conceding
Matchweek three leaves three sides still without a goal, something that has never happened before in the English top flight. All the results with scorers, the full table, and our own tally — misses included.
Matchweek three in the Premier League closed on Sunday evening and produced something without precedent: three teams have still not scored a goal after three games. It has never happened before in the English top flight.
They are Aston Villa, Coventry and Tottenham, and all three have conceded exactly five.

City and Arsenal are level on points and goal difference: City are ahead because they have scored one more.
The scorers
Three men lead on three goals: Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese had been clear on his own after his hat-trick against Ipswich on 30 August, did not score this weekend, and has been caught. A group follows on two.
The four stories of the round
The record nobody wants. Three sides goalless after three rounds had never happened in English top-flight history. And Aston Villa go one worse: they are the first side in Premier League history not to score in their opening three games in two consecutive seasons. The only precedent anywhere in English football is Ipswich in 1969-70 and 1970-71.
Against Hull, though, Villa did register the first shot on target of their season: without it they would have been the first side since 2003-04 to go three games without troubling a goalkeeper.
Bournemouth, always ahead and never winning. The oddest number of the round: they are the first side in Premier League history to lead in each of their opening three games and win none of them. Seven points dropped from in front, the last of them at Newcastle where 2-0 became 2-2 through Ramsey on 88 minutes.
Hull City, still unbeaten and unbreached. They are only the third promoted side ever to come through their first three top-flight games without conceding, after Charlton in 1998-99 and Huddersfield in 2017-18. Third in the table on seven points, three scored and none conceded.
Tottenham, back to 1974. They had not gone goalless through their opening three matches since 1974-75, and they arrive there after a summer in which they spent more than three hundred million pounds.
How our own calls went
We had published ten match calls on this round, one per game. Eight came in, two did not.
We name the two misses, because a tally is only worth something if they are in it:
Manchester City vs Coventry. We said more than 1.5 goals and it finished 1-0. Coventry defended better than we expected, and a Haaland header was enough for City.
Fulham vs Crystal Palace. We said fewer than 4.5 goals and five arrived, with Palace winning 3-2 after coming from behind twice. It is the clearest miss of the round: the game went exactly the opposite way to our read.
The individual calls
We had published twelve. Five came in, none failed, three were voided and four are still to be settled.
The ones that came in: Szoboszlai on shots, Stach on shots, Haaland to score, Strand Larsen and Tavernier.
And now the part we promised. In Thursday's preview we flagged three individual calls as at risk, because those players might not take the field. They were Doku, João Gomes and Joelinton.
Here is how it went: João Gomes and Joelinton did not play, and both calls were voided. The third, on Doku, is still open. Voided does not mean right: it means the call never ran, and the reader deserves to be told rather than watch it vanish from the tally.
What to watch now
The league pauses for the Champions League, which restarts on Tuesday. When it returns there are three open questions: whether Hull City can hold that pace, how much longer the Villa and Tottenham droughts last, and whether Bournemouth can finally turn leads into wins.
