União Desportiva de Leiria was founded on 6 June 1966 and represents the city of Leiria, in central Portugal. The club first reached the Primeira Liga in 1979-80 and later spent long spells in the top flight, with José Mourinho among the coaches who sat on its bench before joining Porto.
