Carabao Cup fourth round draw and results: Manchester United knocked out by Brighton from 2-0 up

Manchester United are out of the Carabao Cup. Last night they lost 2-3 at home to Brighton after leading 2-0 inside ten minutes: it is the first time in fifty years they have lost a home game after being two goals up. And it is the second year running they have gone out in their first tie of the competition.

How it went

Shea Lacey scored on 8 minutes, on his first start, and Mount added a second on 10. Brighton pulled one back through Kostoulas on 45+1, set up by Hadjam, and turned it round after the break through Gross on 65 and substitute De Cuyper on 69. The ground whistled at the end.

Carrick took the blame: “We can't accept that as a group. I take responsibility for it.” Brighton have a worry of their own: Hadjam went off injured late on and is a doubt for Saturday's game against Arsenal.

Around United there is also the case of JJ Gabriel, 15, who on Tuesday asked to cancel his academy registration. The club said it was surprised and expects to resolve the matter.

League Two side Fleetwood are there after knocking out Sheffield United, and Liverpool against Chelsea brings Xabi Alonso back to Anfield as an opponent. The final is on 21 March 2027 at Wembley.
