Bundesliga standings and results after matchday 4: Olise hat-trick and Kane's 100th goal as Bayern Munich beat Union Berlin 7-0, while Borussia Dortmund keep a perfect record
Bayern Munich beat Union Berlin 7-0 with Olise's first hat-trick for the club, and Kane reaches 100 Bundesliga goals in 98 games. But Dortmund are top on their own, 12 points from 12 after Beier's winner in Stuttgart. Every result, the standings and our calls: seven right out of nine.
Bayern Munich beat Union Berlin 7-0 on Friday night, with Michael Olise's first hat-trick for the club and Harry Kane's 100th goal in the Bundesliga, reached in his 98th appearance, quicker than anyone before him. It was not enough to go top. Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 in Stuttgart through Maximilian Beier and are the only side with a perfect record, 12 points from 12. Bayern have 10, level with Freiburg, who were held 2-2 in Frankfurt. At the bottom, Borussia Mönchengladbach lost 4-3 at home to Mainz and are still on zero.

Bayern Munich 7-0 Union Berlin: Olise and Kane
Jamal Musiala opened the scoring on 18 minutes from distance. Kane converted a penalty on 39 after Tom Rothe fouled Olise, Olise scored on 43, Kane headed in from an Olise assist on 54, Ismael Saibari added one on 70 and Olise struck again on 73 and 76, both times set up by Bischof. So Olise scored three, won the penalty and provided an assist. Vincent Kompany said the Frenchman had put a lot of work into those finishes in training, because even the best players need more than talent.
Kane, 33, reached 100 Bundesliga goals in his 98th game. The record belonged to Dieter Müller, who needed 129. The penalty was number 100 and the header took him to 101. Saibari, on for Luis Díaz on 63 minutes, scored his first goal for Bayern, and Serge Gnabry came on at 77 for his first appearance since April: he had missed the World Cup.
For Union it is the heaviest defeat in their Bundesliga history, and one point from four games is their worst start in the division, with 17 goals conceded. Union coach Mauro Lustrinelli, a 50-year-old Swiss who won the title in Switzerland with Thun last season, spoke of too many individual errors and said the three-week break would give the players a chance to switch off, and then they would come back and life would go on. Union have never beaten Bayern: in the Bundesliga it is 15 games, 10 Bayern wins and 5 draws. At home Bayern have scored 5, 5 and 7 in their three competitive games this season.
Dortmund keep a perfect record: Beier, left out by Klopp, settles it
In Stuttgart the home side did most of the shooting, 12 attempts with 5 on target, and had a goal from Nwaneri ruled out for offside early in the second half. Niko Kovač's Dortmund did not hit the target until the 70th minute, through Karetsas, and moments later Beier scored from Jobe Bellingham's pass. Beier went to the World Cup but is not among the 44 players Jürgen Klopp has called up, and Kovač remarked that life writes the best stories.
It is the fourth time in their history that Dortmund have won their first four Bundesliga games, and the first since 2015-16 under Tuchel. They have won their last six competitive games, and have conceded only 2 in the league, the same as Bayern. Sebastian Hoeneß's Stuttgart stay on 3 points. Leverkusen 2-0 RB Leipzig and a minute's silence for Peter Hermann
Before kick-off both teams stood for a minute in the centre circle for Peter Hermann, who died on Saturday aged 74. At Leverkusen he was a player, assistant and caretaker coach for almost thirty years, and he was Heynckes's assistant in Bayern's 2013 treble side. Carles Martínez's Bayer Leverkusen won through Patrik Schick on 44 minutes, a volley from Miguel Gutiérrez's cross, and Gutiérrez himself on 57. Schick has scored in every league game this season. Martín Demichelis's RB Leipzig have lost both their league away games.
Gladbach still on zero, and a row over a penalty
Gladbach have now lost 4-3 at home twice, after the same result against Elversberg. On 57 minutes Diks, captain in place of the suspended Kleindienst, hit the post from a penalty awarded after a VAR check. When a second penalty came in stoppage time, Machino took the ball from Diks and scored it himself on 90+5, and the two had words on the pitch. Jan-Moritz Lichte was in charge as caretaker after Polanski was sacked on 13 September. Sporting director Rouven Schröder said after the game that the club had reached a verbal agreement with a new coach, but wanted the signature in place first. The German press say it is Alexander Blessin, formerly of St. Pauli; as of midday on Monday 21 September no announcement had been made. The derby in Cologne follows on 11 October, and our call will come with the matchday 5 preview.
Urs Fischer's Mainz got their third through a header from Eric Martel, who came on at 65 minutes in his first competitive game after a long injury. In our preview we had him among the absentees.
Comebacks and first wins
Werder Bremen were 2-0 down to Augsburg and won 3-2 through Grüll, Niclas Füllkrug, now on three goals in four games since returning to Bremen on loan, and Mitchell Weiser in the third minute of stoppage time. Weiser, 32, was playing his second game after more than a year out with a ruptured cruciate, and said he had dreamed of that moment many times. It is Augsburg's first league defeat.
Hamburg, who had extended coach Merlin Polzin's contract the day before, beat Cologne 2-1 for their first win and first goals of the season, after three defeats in which they failed to score and conceded 12. Promoted Paderborn, coached by Ralf Kettemann, beat Christian Ilzer's Hoffenheim 3-1 for their first Bundesliga win since 25 January 2020.
Adi Hütter's Eintracht Frankfurt and Julian Schuster's Freiburg drew 2-2 in front of 60,100, the biggest crowd at the Deutsche Bank Park since it was expanded. Younes Ebnoutalib has four goals in his first four league games: at this stage of a season only Hölzenbein and Yeboah had scored more for Eintracht. Hütter said he was happy with the point because the performance had not been good. Promoted pair Schalke 04 and Elversberg drew 0-0, with 2 of the 24 shots on target.

Our calls: 7 out of 9
Across the nine games we got seven right. For Leverkusen v Leipzig, Schalke v Elversberg and Paderborn v Hoffenheim the site has not recorded the outcome yet: the count is based on the final scores.
The first miss was Stuttgart v Dortmund: we went for at least two goals and Dortmund won 1-0. Dortmund had no shot on target until the 70th minute, and Nwaneri's goal was ruled out. The second was Schalke v Elversberg: we expected Elversberg to score and it finished 0-0. Elversberg had 11 shots with only one on target, and Petkov missed from five metres on 85 minutes.
Player predictions
We published seven, none cancelled. Four are correct: at least one shot on target for Luis Díaz and for Ermedin Demirović, at least one foul for Nicolás Capaldo and for Philipp Sander. Capaldo also scored Hamburg's first goal of the season. One is wrong: Aleksandar Pavlović, at least one foul, committed none in 63 minutes.
Ozan Kabak, at least one foul, is still open: the match data credit him with three, but the site has not recorded the outcome yet. Serhou Guirassy, at least one shot on target, is under review and not counted for now.
The break: Klopp's Germany
Jürgen Klopp has named 44 players in two groups. The first group face the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Thursday 24th at 20:45 (our call is at least two goals, confidence 7 out of 10) and Greece in Augsburg on Sunday 27th at 20:45 (our call is at least two goals, confidence 7 out of 10). It includes Kimmich, Musiala, Tah and Gnabry of Bayern, Schlotterbeck and Nmecha of Dortmund and Ebnoutalib of Eintracht. Pavlović, Bischof and Burkardt are in the second group, for the October games. Beier, Undav, Stiller and Sané are left out, and Füllkrug is on neither list.
