EFL Trophy

The EFL Trophy is a knockout competition for the clubs of League One and League Two, the bottom two divisions of the English Football League, joined by sixteen invited under-21 sides from Category One academies. It began in 1983-84 as the Associate Members' Cup, became the Football League Trophy in 1992 and took its present name in 2016. The competition opens with regional groups and closes with the final at Wembley: the invited academies play all of their group games away from home and none has yet won the trophy, while Bristol City and Peterborough United are the most successful clubs.
